Not Just a Crosswalk SAO / Badge

Why "Not Just a Crosswalk"? This project is a hardware protest against the systemic removal and erasure of LGBTQ+ visibility in public spaces across the US.

Since early 2025, a wave of state mandates and court rulings has forced cities like Miami Beach, Austin, Gainesville, and San Antonio to remove rainbow crosswalks from their streets. These weren't just paint; they were symbols of safety and inclusion. This project pushes back against that erasure.

THE HARDWARE The "Not Just a Crosswalk" Simple Add-On (SAO) is designed for DEFCON 34.

High-Impact Visuals: 18x side-emitting SK6812-EC3210R LEDs configured for complex patterns. Persistent Memory: Saves your most recently used flag and effect in case of power loss and switching from SAO badge power to USB-C power. Smart Power: Automatically detects power source. Switches between USB-C 5V and Host Badge/SAO port power. Includes a boost converter to keep LEDs bright even when running off the DC34 badge (which only outputs 3V). Control: Two tactile buttons for easy effect cycling and flag palette changes.

WHAT YOU GET

1x "Not Just a Crosswalk" SAO 1x Lanyard with Lobster Clasp to attach to host badge

Ally Pride Flag: Due to hardware limitations (specifically the 18-LED count and PCB layout), I could not create an Ally Pride flag on the SAO. However, I created a similar Ally shape "Λ" as a sticker using black vinyl that you can add to the SAO/Badge (pics added). I will include one on request.

SAO Security: Additionally, to keep you from losing your SAO if it gets bumped off a badge or totem, I am including a charm lanyard with a Lobster Clasp to securely attach the SAO to your host badge, totem, or other lanyard.

In-Person Pickup: These are currently only available for pickup at DEFCON 34. Be prepared to show your paid-in-full/reservation confirmation.
